Background
Richard trained for three years in advanced laparoscopy and hysteroscopy at North Shore Hospital under Dr Praveen de Silva, one of New Zealand’s leading minimally invasive women’s health surgeons. He is a firm believer in collaborative approaches to care and is an advocate of day case surgery to reduce barriers and improve patient outcomes.
His public work is spread between Nelson Hospital and Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland. Outside of clinical medicine, Richard is heavily involved in research, holding Honorary Lecturer status at the Universities of Otago and Auckland. His academic interests include both surgical techniques and reproductive rights.
Richard is married and has two school aged boys with whom he shares his love for all things ocean. With a background that includes a Master of Arts in Ancient Philosophy, and ten years’ service as an officer in the New Zealand Army Reserve, Richard brings a wealth of work and life experience to his practice.
Consultation Fees:
A new consultation, or procedural appointment is $300 + GST. A follow up consultation is $200 + GST.
There are no extra charges for standard consumables such as for endometrial biopsies, insertion or removal of IUDs/Mirenas, and skin biopsies. Procedural sedation via Penthrox (self-administered methoxyflurane) can be provided for an additional $150.
Richard is an affiliated provider for those with Southern Cross Medical Insurance
A referral from a registered medical practitioner is preferred but not essential.
